This course covers a range of industry-specific core units of competency designed to ensure trainees understand how to plan and undertake work requirements, identify and mitigate hazards and communicate within the workplace

Course content

Packaging rules for the course content involve 13 units of competency consisting of:

8 Core Units

  • Maintain workplace safety
  • Identify and minimise environmental hazards
  • Run on-site operations
  • Respond to local emergencies and incidents
  • Communicate in the workplace 
  • Set up and prepare for drilling operations 
  • Apply risk management processes 
  • Carry out operational maintenance

5 Elective Units 

  • made up from a selection of units across the RII package
    • Conduct reaming
    • Install product pipe
    • Conduct horizontal directional drilling
    • Work effectively with diversity
    • Maintain and monitor site quality standards
    • OPerate drilling fluids and mud pits 
    • Provide first aid
    • Conduct micro tunnelling and pipe jacking operations
    • Operate and maintain a four-wheel drive vehicle 
    • Work safely at height
    • Enter and work in a  confined space 
    • Conduct wheel loader operations
