MR Truck Licence Training
Vertical Horizonz Australia’s Medium Rigid Vehicle course is designed to ensure trainees are competent and confident to operate and maintain medium rigid vehicles prior to attempting their MR licence through TMR. The training is suitable for those in industries such as road transport, mining and civil construction.
Definition
- Medium Rigid (MR) – bus or truck (including a prime mover or a mobile crane) over 8t GVM with a maximum of 2 axles
- Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonne GVM.
- Also includes trucks and buses in LR licence categories.
Alongside our other programs, we are pleased to offer a variety of specialised courses, such as Certificate III in Driving Operations, light vehicle operating Training, Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Licence Course, and 4WD Training Course, to meet the diverse needs of our students.
Operate a Medium Rigid Vehicle
PURPOSE
This course is designed to ensure trainees are competent and confident to operate and maintain medium rigid vehicles prior to attempting their MR licence through Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads. The training is suitable for those in industries such as road transport, mining, and civil construction. Our Medium Rigid Vehicle training instructs our trainees to operate buses, trucks, primer movers, mobile cranes over 8-tonne GVM with two axles maximum and trailers with a maximum 9-tonne GVM.

UNITS OF COMPETENCY
TLILIC3003 – Drive medium rigid vehicles
Requirement to obtain a MR Licence
- Must have held a Licence for at least 12 months
- Complete a theory test at a QLD Transport Centre – 10 questions (they can practice online at www.transport.qld.gov.au)
- Complete a QLD Licence application form
- Become competent with the vehicle (2-6 hours average/competency based)
- Pass a practical driving test at QLD Transport usually using our vehicle.
ENTRY CRITERIA
Requirement to demonstrate a level of written and spoken English to do this: Equivalent to Level 1 English communication skills.
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
The programme trainers are all experienced practical people. They speak everyday workplace language and have a wealth of real life examples to share with trainees. Trainees are encouraged to ‘have a go’ in a supportive, safe environment.
