Queensland Health and Safety Representative Refresher Course
This training is designed to renew the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of Health and Safety Representatives having successfully completed the 5-day HSR course or approved refresher training course. Health and Safety Representatives are legally required to refresh their training every 12 months from their last formal training (Work Health and Safety Act Regulation 2011, s. 21 (1) (b)). The course is conducted in one day.
Purpose
The primary role of a HSR is to represent the health and safety interests of a work group and to raise any issues with their employer. There can be as many HSRs and deputy HSRs as needed, after consultation, negotiation and agreement between workers, the employer, or persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), and a worker’s representative.
With effect 29 July 2024 all HSRs must undertake the relevant approved training course within 28 days of their election. If a worker chooses not to undertake the training within the time period, they will no longer be eligible to fulfill the role of HSR and will need to be replaced.
